REBECCA AFONWY-JONESMezzo-soprano
Rebecca Afonwy-Jones studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Alexander Gibson Opera School at the Royal Scottish Academy, most recently under Patricia Hay and John Evans. She has won many scholarships and been successful in several competitions
Rebecca has worked for British Youth Opera, Rostov State Theatre, Wexford Festival, Garsington Opera in a repertoire including Nicklausse/Muse LES CONTES D’HOFFMANN, Varvara KATYA KABANOVA, Princess Maria WAR AND PEACE and Minsk Woman FLIGHT. She also has a large concert repertoire.
In 2010 Rebecca sang Cherubino LE NOZZE DI FIGARO and the Composer ARIADNE AUF NAXOS for RSAM&D, SERENADE TO MUSIC in the London Prom season and the title role in CARMEN for Scottish Opera on tour. In 2011 she sang Fox CUNNING LITTLE VIXEN for the RSAM&D and Countess Ceprano in the new production of RIGOLETTO and Resi in the new production of INTERMEZZO for Scottish Opera. At the beginning of the 2010/11 season she became a Scottish Opera Emerging Artist.
Her engagements in 2011/12 include covering Mad Margaret RUDDIGORE for Opera North and covering Hansel HANSEL UND GRETEL for Scottish Opera as well as concerts across the UK
