LOÏC GUGUEN
Baritone and Bass

Loïc Guguen was born in Paris.  He studied for several years with Rachel Yakar and Anne-Marie Rodde, before going to Centre de formation lyrique de Notre-Dame de Paris.  There he studied mainly oratorios and other church music and performed Bach ST MATTHEW PASSION and Berlioz L’ENFANCE DU CHRIST with the conductor John Nelson.  During this period of study, Loïc's potential as a dramatic baritone was encouraged.  This was further developed, when he progressed to the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London to study on the 2 year Opera Course with Laura Sarti.  At GSMD, Loïc worked with many established conductors including Nicholas Kok with Don Cassandro LA FINTA SEMPLICE and Paolo Olmi with Ford FALSTAFF. He also worked with the following directors: Stephen Medcalf, Martin Lloyd-Evans, Olivia Fuchs, Stephen Langridge, William Kerley.
 
Loïc Gugen particularly excels in romantic Italian repertoire and has already been singing the title roles in SIMON BOCCANEGRA and GIANNI SCHICCHI, Michele IL TABARRO, Germont LA TRAVIATA, Sharpless MADAMA BUTTERFLY for Opera de Besançon. Recent engagements include title role MACBETH at Théâtre de Trianon in Paris Valentine FAUST for Edinburgh Grand Opera, Renato UN BALLO IN MASCHERA for Castleward Opera Title Role GIANNI SCHICCHI for Opéra National de Paris Amphitheatre, excerpts of Telramund LOHENGRIN at Théâtre de Chatelet, Paris, Escamillo CARMEN for Diva Opera, Monterone RIGOLETTO for the Iford Arts Festival and Marcello LA BOHEME for Opera de Metz. Recent engagements include covering Amonasro AIDA for Stade de France and the Verdi REQUIEM for L’Orchestre Colonne.
