IAN CADDY
Bass-baritone

Ian Caddy was born in Southampton and studied at the Royal Academy of Music (where he won the President’s Prize) and subsequently with Otakar Kraus.  He made his debut as Schaunard LA BOHEME with Glyndebourne Touring Opera and has since appeared with Royal Opera, Covent Garden, English National Opera, Scottish Opera, Welsh National Opera, Kent Opera, Glyndebourne Festival, Opera de Nantes, Opera Holland Park, Castleward Opera and the English Bach Festival.  His repertoire includes Baron Zeta THE MERRY WIDOW Pooh-Bah THE MIKADO, Don Alfonso COSI FAN TUTTE, Frank DIE FLEDERMAUS and Theseus HIPPOLYTE ET ARICIE, Jupiter ORPHEUS IN THE UNDERWORLD, Pollux CASTOR ET POLLUX and Telenus NAIS. Other engagements include concerts in Vienna and at Teatro La Fenice, Venice, a concert series in Zimbabwe, and a Richard Baker Classical Music Cruise (down the Amazon river), which included an Opera Gala in Manaus Opera House. 
 
Ian Caddy also has a busy concert diary including appearances at St John's Smith Square, the St Magnus Festival, Peri’s EURIDICE at the Lufthansa Festival, three new mini-operas in Dublin, Brahms REQUIEM in Nimes, MESSIAH in Munster, THE APOSTLES for RTE, DREAM OF GERONTIUS, MESSIAH, the first performance of Philip Martin’s IN DUBLIN’S FAIR CITY in Dublin, ST. MATTHEW PASSION and MESSIAH in Berne, Verdi REQUIEM and Richard Blackford’s MIRROR OF PERFECTION at the Royal Festival Hall.   His recordings include Rameau NAIS and LA PRINCESSE DE NAVARRE, the Viceroy in Lord Berners’ LE CARROSSE DU SAINT-SACREMENT, Grand Vizier in Sullivan’s THE ROSE OF PERSIA with the Hanover Band and Stravinsky’s THE FLOOD conducted by Robert Craft. His videos include MACBETH, THE BEGGAR’S OPERA, LA FANCIULLA DEL WEST and INTERMEZZO.  He gave a series of Baroque Gesture Masterclasses in Vienna and directed VENUS AND ADONIS at the Shakespeare Globe Theatre.
